Milan close to appointing Markus Krosche as new sporting director

Milan are nearing an agreement to appoint Markus Krosche as the club’s new sporting director, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian club is expected to finalise the terms of Krosche’s contract by the end of this week, following his departure from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Eintracht Frankfurt announced earlier that Krosche would leave his position as sporting director. The Bundesliga club said the decision followed “good, open and trust-based discussions” between Krosche and Matthias Beck, the chairman of its supervisory board, over recent weeks.

Axel Hellmann will take charge on an interim basis until a permanent sporting director is appointed. Eintracht Frankfurt also confirmed that Krosche’s contract had been due to run until the end of June 2028, although changes were made to the agreement without being specified.

Milan had tried to appoint Krosche last summer, according to reports, but he was unable to leave Eintracht Frankfurt at that time. The Serie A club are now seeking a replacement for Igli Tare, who was dismissed after Milan failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Krosche joined Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021 and played a role in the club’s Europa League triumph in 2022. During his time in Germany, he was also involved in a number of significant player sales.

Those deals included Omar Marmoush’s move to Manchester City for 75 million euros, Hugo Ekitike’s transfer to Liverpool for almost 100 million euros, and Randal Kolo Muani’s move to Paris Saint-Germain for more than 90 million euros.

Krosche described his time at Eintracht Frankfurt as “exceptional, intense and unforgettable”.

“The years I spent in Frankfurt were exceptional, intense and unforgettable for me,” he said. “Over the past few months, I have thought carefully about my personal situation and my professional future.

“After more than five very successful – and also challenging – years at this great club, I have felt for some time that I needed a change, and that new energy could also benefit the club.”

Eintracht Frankfurt are currently 11th in the Bundesliga table with eight points after six matches this season.
