Bremer criticises Juventus team after Lazio defeat: ‘I cannot carry everyone’

Gleison Bremer accused some Juventus players of hiding from responsibility after they were beaten 3-0 by Lazio, saying they become fearful when supporters’ jeers begin.

Juventus suffered a heavy home defeat in the seventh round of the league season, with Oliver Provstgaard, Gustav Isaksen and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scoring for Lazio.

The result left Lazio on 19 points, level with leaders Inter at the top of Serie A. Juventus remain eighth on 11 points, eight behind the leading pair.

“We played badly, so we cannot be happy with the way we represented the Juventus shirt,” Bremer told Sky Sport Italia. “We have to analyse our mistakes and immediately get back on the right track, because there is no time for anything else.”

Juventus had created opportunities and performed well before conceding, according to Bremer, but their opponents scored with their first chance.

“We created chances and played well until they scored,” he said. “Therefore, conceding from their first opportunity was a huge frustration for us. It is something we must address immediately.”

Luciano Spalletti was absent from the Juventus dugout because of a suspension following his confrontation with Cagliari manager Fabio Pisacane. The Juventus players also appeared to lack determination during the match.

Bremer said responsibility for carrying out the manager’s instructions ultimately rested with those on the pitch.

“It is true that the coach gives us instructions, but we are the ones who have to put them into practice on the pitch,” he said.

“There are 11 players on the field, plus five who come on from the bench, and I cannot carry everyone on my shoulders.”

The defender said he tried to encourage his team-mates, but acknowledged that players respond differently under pressure.

“I try to help my team-mates and speak to them, but every player has their own personality,” Bremer added. “We can push them to a certain point, but that is all. Some players have stronger personalities than others.”

He went on to say that some members of the squad struggled when faced with criticism from the stands.

“When they hear the jeers, they hide and become afraid,” he said. “I know we have many new and young players, and if you compare the situation with Juventus several years ago, things are different.”

Bremer stressed that he was not deliberately blaming his colleagues.

“I am not pointing the finger at my team-mates, but everyone has their own nature,” he said. “When things go badly, some players deal with it with determination, while others hide. That is their personality.”

The defeat extended Juventus’ wait for a victory over Lazio to four matches. Their last win in the fixture came in 2024, when they won 1-0 in the eighth round of the league.

Lazio have taken 19 points from their opening seven matches for the first time in their history, winning six and drawing one without losing. They are second on goal difference, behind Inter, while Juventus remain eighth.
