Nice beaten by Lyon as Egypt defender Mohamed Abdelmonem goes off injured

Lyon came from behind to beat Nice 2-1 in the seventh round of the French league, with Egypt defender Mohamed Abdelmonem forced off after picking up an injury.

Abdelmonem started for Nice and remained on the pitch until the 81st minute, when he was replaced after being affected by the injury sustained earlier in the match.

Nice took the lead in the 18th minute through Ivory Coast forward Elye Wahi.

Lyon levelled in the 32nd minute when Pavel Sulc found the net, before United States international Tanner Tessmann completed the comeback four minutes later by scoring Lyon’s winning goal.

Abdelmonem was injured in the 70th minute following a strong challenge from Nakamura. The Lyon player was shown a red card for the incident.

Despite the injury, Abdelmonem continued for 11 minutes before leaving the field in the 81st minute.

The victory moved Lyon to 14 points and took them to the top of the French league table. Nice remain on eight points in 13th place.
