Miguel Cardoso says Mamelodi Sundowns squad depth makes selection difficult

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso says the quality available in his squad can make choosing a starting line-up a difficult task.

The Portuguese manager was speaking after Sundowns beat Richards Bay FC 4-1 in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday.

Sundowns are preparing to face Angolan side Williete S.C. in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

Cardoso said the number of talented players at his disposal meant he was not always able to give everyone the opportunities he would like.

“Sometimes I have difficulties dealing with this situation because there are so many players with quality that I would like to give more opportunities to and sometimes it’s really, really difficult to be in my chair,” said Cardoso.

Despite the challenge, the coach praised his squad’s professionalism and attitude when players are left out. He said they continued to work hard and remained ready to take their chance when selected.

“I have fantastic players that they do understand the difficulties. The way I explain them my job is also accepted from their side and they are very professional on the level of commitment when they are in or they are not because they know that when they are not is where they need to stuck more to the work because any moment, they go and they need to perform and usually they do.

“So, I’m a very happy coach because of the attitude of my players in general.”
