Former Zimbabwe international Tapuwa Kapini has joined the Sekhukhune United technical team as goalkeeper coach, moving from Highlands Park to the Betway Premiership club.
Sekhukhune’s coaching staff is currently led by Papi Zothwane, with Kapini returning to a club he previously represented during his playing career. The retired goalkeeper was part of the team when Sekhukhune competed in the GladAfrica Championship, now known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship, before helping them progress to the top flight.
Kapini had most recently been working with Highlands Park, where he focused on coaching and developing the club’s young goalkeepers. His move to Sekhukhune sees him take up the same role at Betway Premiership level.
He was included on the bench for Sekhukhune’s 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants at Peter Mokaba Stadium last night. The result lifted Sekhukhune to sixth place in the Betway Premiership standings.
Kapini will add further experience to a goalkeeping department that already includes Melusi Buthelezi, Toaster Nsabata and Manual Sapunga. His role will be to work with the group and help develop the club’s goalkeepers.
