Paris Saint-Germain will assess Nuno Mendes on Sunday after the defender suffered an injury during the 3-1 win over Strasbourg, with manager Luis Enrique admitting there is uncertainty over whether he will be fit to face Barcelona.
Mendes came on in the 56th minute of the Ligue 1 match but was forced off after Paris Saint-Germain had completed their substitutions. As a result, the hosts finished the game with 10 players.
“Nuno Mendes suffered a minor injury, and I hope that is really the case,” said Enrique at his post-match news conference.
The Paris Saint-Germain manager said medical checks on Sunday would establish the extent of the problem.
“Tomorrow will be the right time to assess his condition with the doctor and determine how serious this minor injury is,” he added.
Enrique said the club had decided not to take any risks with the Portugal international, even though it meant playing a man short.
“I do not even know whether we can call it an injury, but we decided to play with one fewer player because we did not want to take a risk,” he said.
The uncertainty over Mendes comes before Paris Saint-Germain host Barcelona at Parc des Princes on Tuesday in the third round of the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.
Both teams have won their opening two matches of the competition. They are level on points, with Paris Saint-Germain top of the table on goal difference.
