Liverpool suffer Jeremie Frimpong injury blow against Brentford
Liverpool have suffered another injury setback after Jeremie Frimpong was forced off shortly after half-time during their 2-1 Premier League victory over Brentford on Saturday.
The Dutch right-back was introduced at the interval in place of Ronald Araujo but lasted only six minutes before going down with an apparent injury. Rio Ngumoha subsequently replaced him as Liverpool made another adjustment to their defence.
Frimpong’s setback came at a crucial point in the match, with Brentford already reduced to 10 men following Yehor Yarmoliuk’s dismissal in first-half stoppage time. Despite their numerical advantage, Liverpool faced another challenge as they attempted to overturn the hosts’ lead.
The defender’s injury adds to Liverpool’s growing concerns over player fitness, particularly after Dominik Szoboszlai was also forced off in the first half. The Hungarian midfielder had only recently returned from a hamstring problem before suffering a recurrence during the encounter.
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola subsequently confirmed that both players could be unavailable for some time, although the full extent of their injuries will depend on further medical assessments.
“Jeremie was new,” Iraola explained. “But it means that we will lose Dom and Jeremie for some time, yes.”
The injury concerns threaten to disrupt Liverpool’s plans during a busy period of the season, with Frimpong’s absence potentially leaving the team short of options at right-back.
Despite the setbacks, Liverpool secured all three points at the Gtech Community Stadium thanks to second-half goals from Víctor Muñoz and Alexander Isak.
The club will now await further medical updates on Frimpong and Szoboszlai before determining their availability for upcoming fixtures.
