Horoya AC will take on Al Merreikh at the Stade du 28-Septembre in Conakry on Sunday, 18 October 2026, in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
The Guinean side will be aiming to make home advantage count and secure a positive result before the return fixture. The Reds and Whites of Matam will hope to build an early advantage in front of their supporters as they continue their campaign in Africa’s leading club competition.
Horoya AC reached this stage after overcoming JS Saoura in the previous round. They suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg but overturned the deficit at home, winning the return match 3-1.
That comeback kept the Guinean club’s continental campaign alive and gave them renewed confidence ahead of the meeting with Al Merreikh. They will now look to produce another strong performance in Conakry and take control of the tie.
Several players are expected to have important roles in the match. At centre-back, Salif Coulibaly will be relied upon to use his experience to organise the Guinean defence.
Goalkeeper Sekou Sylla will be responsible for protecting Horoya AC’s penalty area and making the key saves when required. Issaka Samake could also prove influential from the flank, with his forward runs offering the home side an additional attacking outlet.
Al Merreikh’s experience will present a significant test for Horoya AC. The Guinean team will need to remain disciplined in defence while making the most of their opportunities in front of goal.
A favourable result in Conakry would give Horoya AC a valuable platform for the second leg and strengthen their hopes of reaching the next round of the CAF Champions League.
