Didier Drogba has received Harvard University’s W.E.B. Du Bois Medal in recognition of his humanitarian commitment.
The former Ivory Coast captain was presented with the award on 8 October 2026 during a ceremony at Sanders Theatre in the United States.
The medal is Harvard’s most prestigious honour in the field of African and African American studies. It recognises individuals whose work has helped promote the influence and progress of communities.
Drogba’s contribution extends beyond his achievements as one of football’s most celebrated figures. Through the Didier Drogba Foundation, the former Chelsea striker supports initiatives focused on health and education, particularly those addressing the needs of disadvantaged people in Ivory Coast and across Africa.
The Harvard award highlights the social and humanitarian dimension of Drogba’s career. It acknowledges how he has used his public profile to support causes affecting communities and future generations, following a playing career that established him as a global football icon.
Drogba’s latest honour adds to his standing as one of Africa’s most influential sporting figures. His legacy is now defined not only by what he achieved on the pitch, but also by his continued efforts to improve opportunities and living conditions for others.
