Al Ahli Tripoli put themselves in a strong position in the CAF Confederation Cup by beating Welwalo Adigrat University 4-0 away from home on Friday.
The Libyan side’s victory came in the first leg of the second preliminary round, giving them a significant advantage before the return fixture.
Al Ahli Tripoli made a fast start and established control within the opening 21 minutes. Muaid Ellafi broke the deadlock in the 14th minute, and Mohamed Amine Tougai added a second seven minutes later.
The visitors continued to dictate the match after the interval, scoring twice more to complete a comprehensive win. The result also strengthens Al Ahli Tripoli’s encouraging start to their continental campaign.
With a four-goal lead to protect, the Libyan club will go into the second leg in a highly favourable position. Welwalo Adigrat University now face the difficult task of overturning the deficit if they are to remain in the competition.
