Zamalek settle Samson Akinyoola dues as Ferjani Sassi payment deadline nears

Zamalek have paid the outstanding money owed to former player Samson Akinyoola under a settlement agreed with him last summer, board member Hossam El-Mandouh has confirmed.

El-Mandouh said the club was also preparing to pay the dues owed to former midfielder Ferjani Sassi by the end of the current month.

“We have paid the dues of former player Samson Akinyoola as part of the settlement agreed between the club and the player,” El-Mandouh said in comments published by Zamalek’s media centre.

He added: “We are preparing the dues of former player Ferjani Sassi, which are scheduled to be paid at the end of this month.”

Zamalek have been working to settle outstanding financial obligations to former players and coaches in an attempt to avoid further complaints being filed against the club.

“We are keen to pay the amounts due in order to avoid entering into any complaints with former players or coaches,” El-Mandouh said.

He said the club had been making considerable efforts to secure enough funds to meet its commitments and honour the settlements agreed with former members of the squad and coaching staff.

“Zamalek are making great efforts to provide sufficient liquidity to pay these obligations and settlements,” he added.

The club board member said Zamalek would continue following the same approach so that all parties received the money owed to them, while avoiding new disputes before world football governing body FIFA.

“During the coming period, this approach will continue until every party receives its dues, without entering into new disputes with former players or coaches before FIFA in the future,” El-Mandouh said.

Zamalek reached several settlements with former players last summer as part of their efforts to obtain the African licence required to compete in the CAF Champions League during the current season.

They begin their campaign in the second preliminary round away to Rwandan Army on Friday, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

The Egyptian club will be looking to take a positive result from the first leg before the tie is decided.
