Aston Villa recorded their biggest European victory with a 6-0 demolition of Fenerbahce, while Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt claimed a surprise 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
Villa dominated from the outset and led 3-0 at half-time before adding three more goals after the break.
Johan Manzambi opened the scoring in the 12th minute when his shot took a deflection, wrong-footing goalkeeper Ederson and finding the net.
Nicolas Jackson doubled the advantage in the 31st minute with a low finish, then struck again before half-time. The Senegal international capitalised on confusion in the Fenerbahce defence to complete his brace and give Villa a commanding lead.
Jackson came close to completing his hat-trick early in the second half, but his effort was saved. Villa were awarded a penalty soon afterwards when Manzambi was brought down by Ismail Yuksek.
Ross Barkley converted from the spot in the 68th minute, before adding Villa’s fifth with a strike from the edge of the penalty area that changed direction on its way into the goal.
Tammy Abraham completed the scoring late on, giving Aston Villa their biggest European win and their first home victory of the season.
The match was watched by Prince William, the Prince of Wales, as Villa followed up their opening European victory over Club Brugge. They will face Viking next week, with the aim of strengthening their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
Bodø/Glimt claim landmark win
Bodø/Glimt secured an important victory over Borussia Dortmund at Aspmyra, with Fredrik Sjovold scoring the only goal of the match.
Sjovold collected the ball inside the penalty area and finished first time to give the Norwegian champions a deserved lead.
Dortmund pressed for an equaliser but could not find a way through. Their efforts included a close-range attempt from Serhou Guirassy that was blocked by the defence, while Ethan Nwaneri missed a headed chance with 15 minutes remaining.
The defeat was Dortmund’s first since they lost to Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup. The result leaves Borussia Dortmund and Bodø/Glimt level on three points each after two rounds.
Bodø/Glimt’s strong home record continued, with the club having lost only once in their past 21 matches at home in all competitions. They have won 20 of those games.
The Norwegian side also added Dortmund to a growing list of European victims after beating Manchester City and Inter Milan during their impressive run last season.
