Aston Villa hit Fenerbahce for six as Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley score twice

Aston Villa produced a commanding 6-0 victory over Fenerbahce on Wednesday to make it two wins from two in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.

The Villans scored three times in each half, with Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley both claiming doubles. The result was Aston Villa’s biggest victory in a European competition, according to the record provided.

Johan Manzambi opened the scoring after 12 minutes, reacting quickest when Fenerbahce failed to clear a corner. The visitors looked for an immediate response, but Emiliano Suzuki denied Vedat Muriqi on several occasions.

Fenerbahce came close to an equaliser when Oguz Aydın struck the crossbar in the 34th minute. However, their inability to convert their chances proved costly as Aston Villa took control before half-time.

Jackson doubled the advantage in the 31st minute after being picked out by Boubacar Kamara. The Senegalese striker then struck again eight minutes later, combining with Barkley to put Aston Villa 3-0 ahead.

Unai Emery’s side maintained their intensity after the interval and extended their lead through Barkley. The midfielder converted from the penalty spot in the 68th minute after Ismail Yuksek fouled Manzambi.

Four minutes later, Barkley completed his own double with a deflected effort. The goal followed good work from Ibrahim Mbaye on the left, with the Senegalese winger helping Aston Villa continue to dominate the second half.

Fenerbahce struggled to make their limited opportunities count as Aston Villa controlled the remainder of the match. Tammy Abraham completed the scoring in the 90th minute, turning in a cross from Alysson Edward.

The victory gives Aston Villa a perfect record after the opening two rounds of the competition and provides further confidence for the matches ahead. Fenerbahce must now respond quickly, with Slavia Prague their next European opponent.
