Venezia sack Giovanni Stroppa after six straight league defeats

Venezia have dismissed manager Giovanni Stroppa after a run of six defeats in their opening six Serie A matches.

The club confirmed Stroppa’s departure following a start that has left Venezia as the only team in the division yet to earn a point.

Stroppa had guided Venezia to promotion to Serie A, but his side have struggled at both ends of the pitch since returning to Italy’s top flight.

Venezia have conceded 16 goals, giving them the weakest defensive record in the league. They have scored only five times, leaving them with the second-lowest total for goals scored.

Their most recent defeat came against Atalanta in the sixth round of Serie A, when they were beaten 3-1.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Venezia are negotiating with Paolo Zanetti and Davide Nicola over the appointment of Stroppa’s successor.
