Al Shamal have announced the signing of Algeria international Riyad Mahrez, following his three-year spell with Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli.
The Qatar-based club confirmed the move with a video featuring the message: “His left foot made history, and our ambition will write the next chapter.”
Mahrez joined Al Ahli after establishing himself as one of the leading Arab players in the Premier League, where he starred for both Leicester City and Manchester City.
During his time with Al Ahli, Mahrez made a significant contribution to the club’s success and helped them win the AFC Champions League Elite twice in succession.
The 122 appearances he made for Al Ahli brought 37 goals and 46 assists across all competitions.
The move to Al Shamal represents the latest stage of the career of the 34-year-old, who has also won major honours in England and remains one of the most recognisable Algerian players in world football.
