Newcastle’s Matthias Jaissle explains why Nick Woltemade joined Juventus on loan

Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle says Nick Woltemade was allowed to join Juventus on loan because one or two players were ahead of him in the club’s attacking pecking order.

Woltemade moved to Juventus from Newcastle in the final hours of the transfer window, but Jaissle stressed that the Germany international remains a Newcastle player because the deal is temporary.

“Woltemade is still one of our players because he only moved to Juventus on loan,” Jaissle told German newspaper Kicker.

The Newcastle manager said the club had discussed Woltemade’s expected position within the squad and explained how it related to the team’s high-pressing style.

“We explained his role in the team to him, which was linked to our high-pressing approach,” Jaissle said. “At that time, one or two players were ahead of him in the order of options, so we agreed that he should take on a new experience.”

Woltemade has yet to make the expected impact at Juventus. The Germany striker has made four appearances for the Italian club and scored one goal.

There have also been reports that Juventus are considering alternatives in the centre-forward position.

The 24-year-old joined Newcastle from Stuttgart in the summer of 2025 in a transfer worth close to 75m euros. Before his loan move to Juventus, he played 53 matches for Newcastle, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.

Woltemade has made 14 appearances for Germany and scored four international goals.
