Feyenoord host Champions League newcomers Como at De Kuip on Wednesday, with both clubs looking to build on contrasting results in the opening round of the 36-team league phase.
Como made an impressive European debut by beating RB Leipzig 4-1, while Feyenoord were heavily beaten 5-1 by FC Barcelona at Camp Nou.
The Rotterdam side have responded strongly since that defeat in Catalonia a month ago. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team have won their past three Eredivisie matches without conceding, scoring seven against PEC Zwolle, five against FC Utrecht and two in ending AZ Alkmaar’s seven-month unbeaten run in the Dutch top flight.
Feyenoord now sit at the early summit of the Eredivisie and will aim to carry that form into Europe. However, their record against Italian opposition offers little reassurance, with just one victory in seven matches. They most recently lost 2-0 and 2-1 to Inter Milan in the last 16 of the 2024-25 Champions League.
Feyenoord are currently 33rd in the league phase, while Como occupy fifth place after the first round.
Cesc Fabregas’ Como followed their win over Leipzig with a 2-1 victory against Parma, a 2-0 defeat by newly promoted Frosinone and a goalless draw with Roma. Como failed to score despite Roma playing the final 44 minutes with 10 men following Donyell Malen’s dismissal.
Sunday’s draw at Sinigaglia was the first 0-0 in Serie A this season, ending a run of 53 matches without a goalless draw. It also marked the first time Como had failed to score in successive league games since December 2025, when they lost 4-0 to Inter and 1-0 to Roma.
A third consecutive match without a goal in all competitions would be a first during Fabregas’ tenure. Como will also be determined to protect their place in the Champions League’s top eight.
Players and team news
Nacho Ferri has become increasingly influential for Feyenoord following Ayase Ueda’s move to Lille. Ferri has scored in three successive appearances, including a hat-trick against Zwolle and goals against Utrecht and AZ Alkmaar.
Gjivai Zechiel, Anis Hadj Moussa and Luciano Valente provide further attacking options. Hadj Moussa is priced at 2.55 to score or assist, while Moise Kean is priced at 1.78 to make a decisive contribution. A further selection is both teams to score and Como not to lose, at 1.80.
Feyenoord are without Thomas Beelen, Jordan Bos, Bart Nieuwkoop, Reiss Nelson, Gijs Smal and Shaqueel van Persie. Goncalo Borges, Tsuyoshi Watanabe and Jakub Moder are doubts.
Moise Kean is Como’s only injury concern, although Maxence Caqueret, Jayden Addai, Mauro Vigorito, Adrian Lahdo, Willy Kambwala and Edoardo Goldaniga are unavailable after being left out of the squad.
Martin Baturina, who scored Como’s first Champions League goal and supplied another assist, is expected to start alongside Nico Paz, who provided two assists against Leipzig. Assane Diao and Anastasios Douvikas could complete the visitors’ attacking quartet.
Probable teams: Feyenoord – Ernst; Read, St Juste, Marmol, Lopez; Zechiel, Vanhoutte, Targhalline; Hadj Moussa, Ferri, Valente.
Como – Butez; Couto, Ramon, Chalobah, Valle; Milla, Da Cunha; Diao, Paz, Baturina; Douvikas.
Both teams possess enough attacking quality to expose defensive weaknesses, suggesting a competitive match in Rotterdam. Feyenoord’s domestic revival makes them difficult to overcome, but Como’s controlled possession and attacking support could help them claim another valuable Champions League result.
