Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah will look to carry his prolific scoring form to the European stage as Trabzonspor face Finnish side KuPS, seeking his first continental goal for the Turkish club.

The 34-year-old has made an impressive start at Trabzonspor, scoring seven goals in the Turkish Super Lig in the first seven weeks of the campaign.

Salah has also provided three assists, meaning he has contributed directly to 10 of the 16 goals scored by his side in the league during that period.

His domestic form has quickly made him a key figure for Trabzonspor supporters, but the upcoming European fixture presents another opportunity to make his mark beyond Turkey.

Salah seeks European breakthrough

According to Turkish website 61saat, the meeting with KuPS will be Salah’s third European appearance for Trabzonspor.

He previously featured in both legs of the Europa League qualifying play-off against Hungarian side Ferencvaros. Salah played the full 90 minutes in the first leg, which Trabzonspor lost 1-0 at home, before playing 64 minutes in the return fixture, a 4-0 defeat away from home.

Despite his extensive European experience, Salah is still waiting to score his first continental goal in Trabzonspor colours.

Across his career, he has scored 50 goals in the Champions League, four in the competition’s qualifying rounds and 10 in the Europa League, according to the supplied report.

Seven goals underline Salah’s impact

Salah’s scoring run began after he came off the bench in the 58th minute against Kasimpasa.

He subsequently made a decisive impact against Basaksehir, scoring twice in a 2-1 victory, before continuing his scoring form against Amed Sportif.

He then converted a penalty against Genclerbirligi to take his tally to four goals before producing a hat-trick in the derby against Galatasaray.

The Egyptian’s seven-goal return has placed him among the leading scorers in the Turkish league, alongside Amed Sportif forward Orban, according to the report.

His performances have also attracted attention beyond Turkey. Al Jazeera highlighted his direct involvement in 10 goals during his first seven league matches, while Liverpool Echo reported on his contribution against Galatasaray and his assist for Francolino in the away match against Samsunspor.

Trabzonspor’s early goals drive their campaign

Salah’s individual achievements have come amid a strong first-half scoring trend for Trabzonspor.

The team have scored 12 of their 16 league goals in the opening 45 minutes, accounting for 75% of their total. Five came in the opening 15 minutes, two between the 16th and 30th minutes, and another five in the final 15 minutes of the first half.

Trabzonspor have struggled to maintain the same scoring output immediately after the break, failing to score between the 46th and 60th minutes. They have managed two goals between the 61st and 75th minutes and two more in stoppage time.

The figures underline the importance of the team’s early attacking momentum as they seek to build on their domestic form.

Defensive strength offers further encouragement

Trabzonspor’s progress has not been built on goals alone. The team have conceded only five goals in seven league matches, with three coming in the first half and two after the break.

Goalkeeper Onana has played a key role in that defensive record, according to the supplied report.

With Salah leading the attack and the defence showing early signs of solidity, Trabzonspor will hope to carry their domestic momentum into Europe.
