Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah will have a new high-profile figure in Trabzonspor’s technical setup after former Germany defender Jerome Boateng joined the Turkish club as an assistant coach.

Boateng, who won the 2014 World Cup with Germany, has joined the coaching staff led by technical director Thomas Rice, creating a new connection between the retired defender and Salah, who joined Trabzonspor from Liverpool earlier this year.

The appointment marks another step in Boateng’s transition into coaching, while giving Salah the opportunity to work within a club setup that includes a former world champion with extensive experience at the highest level.

Boateng embraces new coaching role

Boateng expressed his enthusiasm about joining Trabzonspor in a post on Instagram, saying he was learning every day from Rice and the other members of the coaching staff.

He also highlighted his desire to pass on his experience to the players and support them both on and off the pitch, describing the opportunity as an important milestone in his coaching career.

The former defender enjoyed a distinguished playing career, including winning the World Cup with Germany and representing major European clubs, most notably Bayern Munich.

Salah and Trabzonspor target progress

Boateng’s arrival comes as Trabzonspor seek to improve their position in the Turkish league, with the club sitting fifth in the standings, according to the supplied report.

Salah’s presence in the squad places the Egyptian forward among the experienced players Boateng will encounter as he begins his coaching career in Turkey.

Their roles will be different, with Salah contributing on the pitch and Boateng working from the technical area, but both will operate within the same club structure.

Bayern Munich move failed to materialise

Boateng had been close to joining Bayern Munich’s coaching staff last year after an invitation from Belgian coach Vincent Kompany to gain experience in management.

However, the proposed move fell through following public protests linked to a previous court case in Germany.

The former Germany international has now taken a different route at Trabzonspor, where his work alongside Rice and the coaching staff will provide an opportunity to develop his coaching credentials while working with established players, including Salah.
