Krepin Diatta transfer saga drew attention from Senegal’s government, says agent

Krepin Diatta’s search for a new club became a matter of national interest in Senegal, with his agent claiming that questions about the player’s future reached the highest levels of government.

The 27-year-old Senegal international, who has won 65 caps and scored two goals, was not offered a new contract by AS Monaco. Despite producing a good individual performance at the 2026 World Cup, he found himself without the offers expected during the summer transfer window.

Diatta eventually joined Watford, agreeing a deal with the English second-tier club until the end of the season.

His agent, Thierno Seydi, said the uncertainty surrounding the transfer attracted considerable attention in Senegal during an interview with the SportElles channel.

“I have never had so much pressure,” Seydi said, explaining that the situation had also affected his family circle.

The agent added that the pressure came from beyond those close to the player, revealing that government officials had asked for updates on the right-back’s circumstances.

Diatta’s move has also been viewed as disappointing financially. According to Seydi, the player turned down offers worth more money before ultimately accepting a lower-value deal at Watford.

The transfer may therefore leave a sense of unfinished business from a sporting perspective, given the expectations surrounding Diatta’s next destination after his time at AS Monaco.

He is now waiting to make his first appearance for Watford, with the Senegalese player potentially set to play his first minutes for the Hornets on Tuesday in the 10th round of Championship fixtures.
