Krepin Diatta’s move to Watford was held up for several months after the Senegal international left AS Monaco, with his salary expectations reportedly deterring several interested clubs.
Diatta had been without a club despite producing convincing performances for Senegal. The prolonged uncertainty placed considerable pressure on his agent, Thierno Seydi, who described the search for a new destination as one of the most difficult periods of his career.
Seydi discussed the negotiations during an appearance on the SportElles channel. He said he had expected a number of offers for Diatta after the World Cup and initially believed the player’s next move would be secured without major difficulty.
However, the anticipated proposals did not arrive as quickly as expected. Despite efforts to advance the negotiations, the situation remained unresolved for months, increasing the pressure on the player’s representatives and those close to him.
The financial terms sought by Diatta were reportedly a significant factor in the impasse. According to the information reported, several clubs interested in signing the winger withdrew from discussions because of his wage demands.
That development was made more surprising by the terms of his eventual agreement with Watford. Diatta is understood to have accepted a salary considerably lower than some of the offers he had received at the beginning of the transfer window.
After the prolonged period without a club, the 26-year-old has now joined Watford in the Championship. The move brings an end to an uncertain spell and gives him the opportunity to return to regular club football.
His immediate priority will be to regain match fitness and establish consistency on the pitch after the lengthy break. A sustained run of appearances could provide the platform for Diatta to rebuild his momentum following the end of his time at AS Monaco.
For Seydi, the transfer became far more complicated than it had appeared at the outset. What looked like a straightforward operation developed into a difficult negotiation before Diatta finally secured a contract in England.
Watford are due to play Cardiff in their 10th Championship match soon.
