Zamalek have submitted a formal complaint to the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association and the Competition Committee over offensive chants directed at the club during their Egyptian Premier League derby against Al Ahly.
The club have called for the competition regulations to be applied and for the necessary action to be taken against those responsible for the chants during the sixth-round match.
Zamalek said the individuals involved should be held accountable in order to uphold the rules governing the competition and preserve sporting values inside Egyptian stadiums.
The complaint is the third action taken by Zamalek following their 2-0 defeat by Al Ahly. After the match, the club also complained against the refereeing committee, holding it responsible for the loss.
Zamalek further lodged a complaint with the Supreme Council for Media Regulation against the match director, accusing him of showing offensive behaviour from supporters during the fixture.
The defeat was Zamalek’s first of the season and left them third in the table on 13 points. Al Ahly moved temporarily to the top with 16 points.
The result was Al Ahly’s 53rd victory over Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League, while Zamalek have won 29 league derbies. The teams have drawn 51 times in the competition.
It was also the second time Moataz Gamal had faced Al Ahly as Zamalek manager without winning. He lost 3-0 last season before suffering a 2-0 defeat in the current campaign.
For Hussein Ammouta, the match provided a winning start to his first derby test against Zamalek.
