Dortmund fear fresh injury setback for Mussa Kaba

Borussia Dortmund are awaiting further medical assessments on Mussa Kaba after the 17-year-old midfielder suffered a shoulder injury during the club’s U23 victory over SG Wattenscheid 09.

Kaba was forced off during the first half of Saturday’s 3-2 win after landing awkwardly on his arm following a challenge. The incident raised concerns for Dortmund, with the youngster reportedly experiencing significant discomfort in his shoulder.

BVB U23 coach Daniel Rios provided an initial update after the match, explaining what happened to the young midfielder.

“The shoulder popped out and back in,” Rios said, indicating that Kaba’s shoulder had briefly dislocated before returning to its position.

The coach added that Kaba was experiencing pain and would require further examinations to establish the severity of the injury. He expressed hope that the problem would not prove too serious.

The setback comes just weeks after Kaba returned to action following a lengthy absence caused by muscular problems that began in March. Dortmund gradually rebuilt his fitness before he resumed playing in September, making another injury particularly frustrating for the highly rated midfielder.

For now, Dortmund must wait for the results of further medical assessments before determining how long Kaba could be sidelined. The club will be hoping the injury is minor and that the teenager can continue his development without another extended interruption.
