Everton are considering a fresh move for Bayer Leverkusen forward Christian Kofane during the January transfer window after being impressed by the Cameroon international’s performances.
The 20-year-old was already on the club’s radar during the summer, but Leverkusen refused to sanction his departure in the final hours of the transfer window. According to sources cited by Football Insider, Everton have retained their interest and could return with an offer in January.
Kofane’s encouraging start to the season has strengthened the case for a move. His form has also attracted the attention of Everton manager David Moyes, who is looking for ways to improve an attack that has struggled in front of goal.
Everton may therefore try to reopen discussions when the window reopens, although any approach is likely to depend on Leverkusen’s willingness to negotiate. The German club remain determined to keep the forward and believe he has significant room for development.
Leverkusen planning long-term future
Leverkusen want to build around Kofane’s potential and are considering extending his contract until 2031. As revealed exclusively by Africafoot, the club are looking at ways to secure the Cameroon forward’s long-term future.
A new agreement would underline Leverkusen’s confidence in Kofane while allowing the club to continue overseeing his development within their squad. It would also make any attempt by Everton to sign him more difficult.
The competing plans of the two clubs could make Kofane one of the players to watch during the winter transfer window. Everton would need to persuade Leverkusen to change its position if they are to bring the forward to the Premier League, but there is currently no guarantee that the German club will consider a January transfer.
Kofane is valued at 40 million euros by Transfermarkt and earns an annual salary of 660,000 euros (429,000,000 FCFA).
Leverkusen are due to play Lech Poznan in their second match of the Europa League.
