Bayer Leverkusen offer positive update on Eliesse Ben Seghir injury

Bayer Leverkusen expect Eliesse Ben Seghir to be sidelined only briefly after the Moroccan attacker suffered another muscle injury.

The 21-year-old missed Saturday’s 4-3 Bundesliga win over Mainz, and the latest setback has prompted concern because it is his third injury since pre-season began. However, managing director for sport Simon Rolfes offered cautious reassurance about the expected absence.

“He won’t be out for long. It’s not a serious injury, but it’s frustrating, of course, because it has continued a little for him. We hope this is the last injury,” Rolfes said, according to Bild.

Leverkusen have not yet provided a precise return date. Head coach Carles Martinez said the club is carrying out further examinations to understand the injury and estimate how long Ben Seghir will be unavailable.

Martinez also acknowledged the player’s desire to get back on the pitch and contribute, while stressing that he must manage his body carefully. The attacker will remain under assessment as Leverkusen determine when he can resume team training.

Rolfes’ comments suggest a long layoff is not currently expected, but the club will wait for the medical checks before setting a timetable for his return.
