Frosler expects former Kaizer Chiefs players to pose threat in Stellenbosch test

Kaizer Chiefs defender Reeve Frosler expects former Amakhosi players in the Stellenbosch FC squad to use their knowledge of the club when the teams meet in the Betway Premiership at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to the media at the Village at Naturena on Monday, Frosler acknowledged that the familiar faces at Stellenbosch could understand how Kaizer Chiefs operate and may use that insight to try to frustrate them.

However, the right-back said Kaizer Chiefs would remain focused on taking all three points.

“There’s been a couple of players who have been here in the past and that have moved on, and I think there’s only two or three that are there now from this current season, the new season that started,” Frosler said.

“So yeah, they might know what we’re trying to do. They’re still going to try and stop us if that’s what they want to do.”

The match will be Kaizer Chiefs’ first fixture after the FIFA break, during which Frosler said the coaching staff had given the squad time away from football.

He believes that period had allowed the players to spend time with their families, recover mentally and return refreshed for a demanding sequence of matches.

“I think coaches have given us a good time off to spend with family, to break away a bit and then to come back and feel re-energised, if you want to call it that,” he said.

“For us to be ready and be fresh for the rest of this month, I think we’ve got a heavy month coming up as well, so yeah, I think we should be good.”

The fixture against Stellenbosch FC begins a busy period for Kaizer Chiefs across domestic and continental competitions.

After Tuesday’s match, Amakhosi will travel to Zambia to face Red Arrows in the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday, 17 October.

Frosler said the squad had used the break to prepare for the workload ahead, with the Stellenbosch match providing the immediate focus before the trip to Zambia.

The presence of former Kaizer Chiefs players adds an extra element to Tuesday’s game, but Frosler maintained that the objective for his side was straightforward: to begin the demanding run of fixtures with a victory.
