Juma Bah impresses against Bayern despite injury concern

Juma Bah delivered an encouraging performance for FC Augsburg in their 2-2 Bundesliga draw against Bayern Munich, earning praise from coach Manuel Baum before being forced off with a suspected calf injury.

The 20-year-old centre-back was selected ahead of Jeffrey Gouweleeuw in Augsburg’s defensive line and made the most of his opportunity during his first Bundesliga start for the club.

“Juma did a great job, but so did everyone else,” Baum said after the match, praising Bah while emphasising the collective effort behind Augsburg’s performance.

The Augsburg coach explained that his selection was based on tactical considerations, as he wanted to maintain consistency within the back three. Gouweleeuw later came on as a substitute and also received recognition for his experience and defensive clearances.

However, Bah’s impressive outing ended prematurely when he was substituted in the 82nd minute after experiencing discomfort in his calf. The defender was replaced by Gouweleeuw, with the extent of the problem still unclear.

Bah’s performance was a positive sign as he looks to establish himself at Augsburg following his arrival on loan. The Sierra Leone international had made a strong impression during previous spells in France, and his display against Bayern offered further evidence of his defensive potential.

Augsburg will now monitor his condition before determining whether the injury will affect his availability for upcoming fixtures.
