Al Ahly continues goalkeeper rotation policy

Al Ahly are reportedly planning to hand Mohamed El Shenawy the starting role in goal for their CAF Confederation Cup clash against Uganda’s Kitara FC next Saturday.

The Egyptian giants are preparing for the first leg of their round of 32 encounter, with the technical team keen to secure a positive result away from home ahead of the return fixture.

According to reports, the technical team is leaning towards selecting El Shenawy as part of its goalkeeper rotation policy across different competitions.

The potential decision comes despite Mostafa Shobeir’s impressive performance in Al Ahly’s 2-0 victory over Zamalek in the Cairo derby.

Rather than allowing one goalkeeper to dominate the starting position, the club’s technical staff reportedly intends to distribute playing time to keep all three shot-stoppers match-ready throughout the season.

Under the proposed arrangement, El Shenawy is expected to feature in the Confederation Cup, while Shobeir will continue to receive opportunities in the Egyptian Premier League.

Meanwhile, Hamza Alaa is being considered for appearances in the Egypt Capital Cup, giving the third-choice goalkeeper an opportunity to gain competitive experience.

The approach is intended to maintain competition within the squad while ensuring that the goalkeepers remain prepared whenever called upon.

Al Ahly will now turn their attention to the encounter against Kitara, with the Egyptian side seeking to take an important step towards advancing to the next stage of the continental competition.
