Borussia Dortmund defender Rami Bensebaini has rejected reports that he fell out with new Algeria manager Ibrahim Hamdani during the national team’s latest training camp.
Reports claimed Bensebaini had been involved in disagreements with Hamdani, who recently took charge of Algeria, but the defender said comments attributed to him were entirely false.
Writing on Instagram, Bensebaini said: “Against the backdrop of the many reports circulating about me in recent days, I would like to issue a clear and official denial.
“The statements attributed to me are completely false and have no basis whatsoever. It is regrettable to see how quickly unfounded accusations spread.”
Bensebaini also dismissed any suggestion that representing Algeria was something he took for granted.
“Wearing the Algeria shirt is not guaranteed and it is not an option,” he added. “It is a privilege that requires respect, discipline, humility and dedication.”
The defender said every call-up was a source of pride and that each international gathering carried responsibility. He also described every opportunity to represent his country as a major honour.
“I would like to remind everyone that representing my country and wearing the national team shirt has always been, and will always remain, one of the greatest honours of my career,” he said.
Bensebaini concluded by saying his commitment to Algeria did not need to be demonstrated through social media posts.
“I do not have to prove my love for my country through statements on social media,” he said. “My commitment to my country is not open to question.”
