University of Pretoria returned to winning ways in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with a 2-0 victory over Leicesterford City on Saturday afternoon.
Leandro de Sousa opened the scoring before Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Ntando Nkosi added the second, giving AmaTuks their first home win of the season.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Orbit College’s difficult start continued as they drew 2-2 with Highbury FC. Thabang Sibanyoni scored twice for the hosts, while Joseph Ndlovu also claimed a brace for the visitors.
Orbit College remain without a victory from their opening six matches.
Hungry Lions defeated Real Native 2-0, denying Native the opportunity to move to the top of the table. Santino Smith and Reginald Mokgatle scored for the home side.
The result moved Hungry Lions up to sixth, while Real Native stayed second, two points behind leaders Magesi FC.
Midlands Wanderers were listed as 2-0 winners against Venda Football Club, although the match account recorded the result as a 1-0 victory. Kgotso Masangane scored the only goal described in the report, finding the net in the 64th minute.
The result gave Midlands Wanderers consecutive wins in the Championship.
On Friday, Magesi FC remained top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table after being held to a goalless draw by North West University.
NWU collected another point but are still without a win after six matches this season.
Lerumo Lions and Hope FC also shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Mpilonhle Mazibuko gave the home side the lead three minutes before half-time, but Tauric Gamildien equalised for Hope FC in the 64th minute.
Gomora United completed the weekend’s action on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Upington City.
The victory lifted Gomora United to fourth in the Championship standings and gave them their third win in six matches. Upington City will finish the weekend in 11th place.
