Mohamed Salah set a record in the Turkish league by creating a goal as Trabzonspor beat Samsun 3-0 in the seventh round of the competition.
The result lifted Trabzonspor to 13 points and third place in the Turkish league table, while Samsun remained on four points in 16th, one of the relegation positions.
Salah supplied the assist for Trabzonspor’s third goal in the 39th minute. His pass sent Frankolino Djo through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, allowing the forward to complete a dominant first-half performance from the home side.
The Egypt legend became the first player to record 10 goal contributions in the opening seven matches of a Turkish league season since the 2014-2015 campaign.
His total now stands at seven goals and three assists from those seven games. Salah played for 77 minutes before being replaced by Paul Onuachu.
Trabzonspor’s victory also extended a notable run in the opening 45 minutes. For the second successive match, the club scored three times before half-time, having achieved that in consecutive games for the first time since 1990.
Their previous match saw them establish a 3-0 half-time lead against Galatasaray.
The result also gave Thomas Reis a place in Trabzonspor’s history. He became only the second foreign manager to win each of his first two Turkish league matches in charge of the club, following Shota Arveladze.
Salah’s contribution against Samsun therefore combined a personal milestone with a significant result for a Trabzonspor side that has moved into the top three after seven rounds.
