Manchester United and Tottenham remained locked at 0-0 during the opening 30 minutes of their Premier League week-six meeting, with both sides creating limited opportunities.
Tottenham began brightly and applied pressure as they looked for the opening goal. Dominic Solanke went closest early on when he met a chance inside the Manchester United penalty area, but his powerful effort was saved by the goalkeeper.
The visitors also worked the ball through midfield with a series of short passes, although they struggled to turn their possession into clear chances. A cross from Sandro Tonali was dealt with by the Manchester United defence, while another Tottenham corner was headed away successfully by Luke Shaw.
After 15 minutes, the score remained goalless.
Tottenham continued to look for a route through the Manchester United defence. A low cross reached Mohammed Kudus inside the penalty area, but his strong shot went narrowly wide of the right-hand post.
Lucas Bergvall then tried his luck from outside the box, only to see his effort pass wide of the goal.
Manchester United were largely comfortable in possession in the middle of the pitch, although they had yet to seriously threaten the Tottenham goal. An offside decision was also given against Lisandro Martinez.
Amad Diallo eventually produced the clearest opening for Manchester United, striking firmly from inside the penalty area. Tottenham’s goalkeeper reacted well to keep out the attempt.
Manchester United later won a free-kick in midfield after a foul on Tielemans. Their control of the ball continued without creating another significant opportunity.
With half an hour played, neither team had broken the deadlock.
