Bayern Munich missed the chance to close the gap on Borussia Dortmund as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Augsburg in the fifth round of the Bundesliga.
Augsburg took the lead after only 8.5 seconds, when Robin Fellhauer pressured Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, won possession and finished into an unguarded net. It was the fastest goal in Bundesliga history.
The strike surpassed the previous record set by former Hoffenheim player Kevin Volland, who scored against Bayern Munich after nine seconds in 2015. In a coincidence, both record-breaking goals were conceded by Neuer while playing for Bayern.
Bayern responded after the break and levelled in the 55th minute. Ismael Saibari finished from inside the penalty area following a pass from Harry Kane.
Augsburg restored their advantage nine minutes later when Rodrigo Ribeiro found the net with a shot from inside the 18-yard area.
Bayern rescued a point in the 80th minute through Nathaniel Brown, who converted with his left foot after another assist from Kane.
The result means Bayern were unable to take advantage of Dortmund dropping points elsewhere in the same round. Dortmund drew 2-2 with Werder Bremen.
Bayern are now second in the Bundesliga with 11 points, two behind leaders Dortmund. Augsburg moved on to eight points and occupy fifth place.
