Chelsea hit Bournemouth for five as Henderson inspires emphatic Premier League response

Chelsea responded to their previous Premier League defeat by beating Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Jordan Henderson scoring twice in a dominant sixth-round victory.

The hosts made an extraordinary start and were ahead after only one minute. Henderson collected a pass from Cole Palmer inside the penalty area before finishing to give Chelsea the lead.

Bournemouth had barely recovered when Chelsea struck again. Morgan Rogers doubled the advantage in the third minute with an excellent shot, underlining the intensity of the London side’s opening spell and leaving the visitors struggling to cope.

Chelsea continued to control the contest after the interval and extended their lead through Joao Pedro in the 45th minute. Bournemouth did manage to respond six minutes later, when Evanilson reduced the deficit to 3-1 and briefly offered the visitors hope of returning to the game.

That prospect quickly disappeared as Chelsea restored their three-goal advantage in the 67th minute. Joao Pedro scored again to make it 4-1, before Henderson completed the scoring three minutes later with a direct free-kick.

The England midfielder’s second goal completed a memorable individual performance. He had opened the scoring with a composed finish and then capped Chelsea’s attacking display with a precise set-piece.

Palmer also played an important role in Chelsea’s fast start, using his movement and ability to create space in the attacking third to help the home side establish control from the opening minutes.

The result provides a significant lift for Chelsea and manager Xabi Alonso after they lost their previous match 3-0 against Brentford. The emphatic victory over Bournemouth represented a strong response, although conceding after half-time remains an issue for the team to review despite their clear attacking superiority.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, were punished by their inability to withstand Chelsea’s early pressure. Their defensive organisation, particularly during the opening stages, will need to be assessed after the hosts effectively settled much of the contest before the visitors could find their footing.

Chelsea’s performance offered renewed confidence and demonstrated the threat of their forward line when afforded space and given opportunities to finish. Their five goals also sent a clear message to their Premier League rivals after a difficult result in their previous outing.
