Trabzonspor are preparing to make Andre Onana’s loan move permanent after the Cameroon international established himself as a key member of the Turkish club’s team.
Onana made 34 appearances for Trabzonspor last season and has already played eight times during his current loan spell. His performances have persuaded the club’s leadership to begin planning for a permanent transfer.
According to Turkish Football, president Ertugrul Dogan wants to secure the 30-year-old goalkeeper before the end of the current campaign. Trabzonspor hope that acting early will prevent a prolonged battle for his signature during the next summer transfer window.
The goalkeeper’s contract situation at Manchester United is central to the club’s plans. Onana remains under contract with the Red Devils until 2028, but Manchester United are keen to receive a transfer fee before his deal expires.
That means the club is not expected to send him out on another loan, with the current agreement set to be the final temporary arrangement unless a permanent solution is found.
Talks expected before winter window
Formal discussions between the two clubs are expected to begin soon, ahead of the winter transfer window.
The initial loan agreement did not include an option to buy. However, it offered Manchester United the possibility of receiving financial benefits depending on Trabzonspor’s collective performances.
Despite the interest shown by both clubs, Onana’s representatives do not want to rush into a decision over his future. Africafoot has previously reported exclusively that the former Ajax goalkeeper’s entourage intends to consider the situation carefully.
Onana, who was born in Nkol Ngok, is currently valued at 8 million euros. During his time in England, he earned an annual salary of 7,190,000 euros, equivalent to 4,673,500,000 FCFA.
The Cameroon international’s form has made him an important figure for Trabzonspor, while the financial considerations surrounding his Manchester United contract have encouraged both sides to examine a permanent transfer before the end of the season.
Trabzonspor’s next fixture will be their seventh league match of the season, against Samsunspor. The listed betting prices for the game are 1.84 for a Trabzonspor win, 3.40 for a draw and 3.35 for a Samsunspor victory.
