Rummenigge expects Kane and Olise to stay at Bayern Munich

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes Harry Kane and Michael Olise will remain at Bayern Munich for many years, while backing the England striker to win the Ballon d’Or.

Rummenigge, a member of Bayern’s supervisory board, said both players were committed to continuing with the German club and expressed confidence that Kane would soon extend his contract.

“Both intend to stay at Bayern for a long time,” Rummenigge told German website ran. “I hope, and I am also very confident, that Harry will extend his contract soon. Michael should be next. I would like to see him stay at Bayern for many more years.”

Kane’s current agreement runs until 30 June 2027, although talks over a new deal began before the start of the current season. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl described the discussions as “very harmonious”.

Sky Sport Germany has reported that one option under consideration would see Kane extend his contract until 2029, but no agreement has yet been announced.

Olise, who joined Bayern from Crystal Palace, is contracted to the club until 2029.

Rummenigge also highlighted the importance of having two players regarded as leading contenders for football’s most prestigious individual award.

“At Bayern Munich, we can consider ourselves very lucky to have two players, Harry Kane and Michael Olise, among the leading candidates for the Ballon d’Or,” he said.

“They are world-class players, and world-class players do not grow on trees. They have both been very important figures for us for some time.”

Kane is among the contenders for this year’s award, and Rummenigge believes the striker’s individual record gives him an advantage.

“The decisive criterion is individual performance, and Harry Kane has the edge on that level,” he said. “His goals and titles speak for themselves.”

Rummenigge is the last Bayern player to win the Ballon d’Or. He claimed the award in successive years in 1980 and 1981.

“I was the last Bayern player to win the award, so I would like to see another Bayern player lift it now,” he added. “It would also be of very special importance to us as a club.”

Rummenigge served as Bayern’s chief executive from 2002 until 2021 before returning to the supervisory board in May 2023.
