Michael Olise continued his outstanding run for France by scoring twice and creating another goal as the hosts overturned a 1-0 deficit to beat Belgium 4-1 on Monday.
The Bayern Munich forward came on as a second-half substitute and helped transform the Nations League fourth-round match in a decisive 14-minute spell at Stade de France. His latest display further underlined his importance to France since Zinedine Zidane took charge.
Olise has now scored four goals during the current international break, strengthening his reputation as one of the world’s most influential players at present.
Speaking to French broadcaster TF1 after the match, Olise said France had needed time to find a way through Belgium’s defensive approach.
“I think we played well at the end of the match,” he said. “The first half was difficult because playing against a deep defence is always hard. We kept applying pressure and the ending was good, so we are happy.”
France had initially struggled to break down Belgium, but their sustained pressure eventually produced a dramatic turnaround after the interval. Olise’s introduction added greater attacking threat and he quickly became the central figure in the comeback.
The 23-year-old also credited the collective work of the squad and praised Zidane’s influence, saying the players were committed to carrying out the manager’s instructions.
“I think it is also about the team,” Olise said, according to Foot Mercato. “He [Zidane] puts forward ideas and we follow them. We will continue in this way.”
Olise has emerged as one of France’s most effective players during the latest period of international fixtures, combining his goalscoring with a decisive contribution in the victory over Belgium.
He said he remained delighted to represent his country and valued the quality within the squad.
“I am still very happy with the France team; it is a pleasure to play for this side,” he added. “There are many excellent players. I am happy to play here.”
