Viktor Gyokeres sets new UEFA Nations League scoring record

Viktor Gyokeres has become the first player to score in seven consecutive UEFA Nations League matches after finding the net for Sweden against Romania.

The Arsenal striker opened the scoring in the 12th minute during the fourth round of the competition, with Sweden involved in the second-tier fixtures.

It was Gyokeres’ fourth goal of the current edition, having scored in each of Sweden’s previous matches. He struck against Romania in a 2-1 victory, scored in the 3-1 win over Poland and found the net again in the 1-1 draw with Bosnia.

His sequence began in the previous edition of the competition, when he scored in each of Sweden’s final three matches. He got one goal against Estonia, another against Slovakia and scored four times against Azerbaijan.

That run has taken Gyokeres to seven successive Nations League games with a goal, establishing a new record in the competition.

The 28-year-old will have the opportunity to extend the record during the next international break in November, when Sweden are scheduled to face Poland and Bosnia.

Gyokeres now has 25 goals in 41 appearances for Sweden.

His form for the national team comes during an international break in which he has made a notable impact, following a start to the season at Arsenal in which he had been limited to substitute appearances and had not scored.
