The preliminary round of the 2026-27 Egyptian Basketball Linked League continued with Sporting and Al Ittihad Alexandria taking one victory apiece in their two-team meeting.
Sporting’s linked under-16 side won the opening game 85-81, before Al Ittihad Alexandria’s senior team responded with a 92-61 victory in the men’s fixture.
Egyptian Telecom also completed a double over El Zohour. Its linked team secured a 68-59 win, while the senior side followed with an 89-81 success.
Smouha recorded the same outcome against Heliopolis. Smouha’s linked team won 62-42 and its men’s team finished with a 76-59 victory.
Al Ahly and Zamalek also won their matches in the competition on Sunday.
How the Linked League works
The competition features 16 teams: Al Ahly, Al Ittihad Alexandria, Egyptian Telecom, Zamalek, Petrojet, Sporting, Smouha, Al Jazira, El Qanah, Tala’ea El Gaish, Heliopolis, El Olympi, Ashab El Gead, El Sayed, El Zohour and Algeish Damanhour.
The preliminary round is played over home and away matches. A team earns two points if it wins both the senior and under-16 linked fixtures, while the losing team receives one point.
The four group winners qualify directly for the quarter-finals.
Teams finishing second and third in each group must contest play-off matches to determine the remaining places in the last eight.
The linked competition’s results will also be used to determine the first-round pairings in the Super League, which provides qualification for the Basketball Africa League.
