Kylian Mbappe has sparked fresh discussion in Madrid after posting images of himself undergoing rehabilitation work, including riding an exercise bicycle, while recovering from a knee injury.
The Real Madrid forward shared pictures of his fitness programme on social media, with one showing him smiling at the camera. In the background, the song “Good News… Bad Guys” was playing, alongside the words: “Who is bad? Very bad?”
The combination of the lyric and the bicycle immediately prompted speculation, particularly because of recent comments made by Jose Mourinho about the responsibilities of professional footballers.
The former Real Madrid manager said a player needed to behave professionally “24 hours a day” and warned against activities that could expose them to unnecessary injury. He specifically mentioned riding a bicycle as an example.
Mourinho said a player could not simply get on a bicycle without considering the possible consequences. A fall, he argued, could lead to a player missing several matches or, in the worst case, suffering a broken leg.
He added that the issue was not only linked to the terms of a player’s contract, but also to the image they present and their responsibility to maintain their fitness.
Those remarks, published only 10 days ago, were brought back into focus by Mbappe’s post. His appearance on a bicycle, even as part of a rehabilitation and conditioning programme, created a link that was difficult for some observers in Madrid to overlook.
The timing has also increased the attention on Mbappe’s actions. The France international left the France squad after suffering a knee injury and has continued his recovery programme away from Madrid with permission from Real Madrid.
Mbappe did not refer directly to Mourinho or his comments, and there is no confirmation that the post was intended as a message to the Portuguese coach.
However, the combination of the bicycle image and the deliberately ambiguous song lyric gave the post plenty of room for interpretation among Real Madrid supporters and commentators.
A social media post dated 4 October 2026 featured the caption in French: “Who is very bad?” It also stressed that the image was genuine and not created using artificial intelligence.
Mourinho’s comments were quoted in Spanish as saying: “I care about the way you view your work,” before adding: “You fall off your bicycle and you might miss three matches. Or worse: you break your leg.”
The episode has therefore created a new talking point around Mbappe while he remains sidelined and under close scrutiny during his recovery.
