Morocco U23 turn attention to Ethiopia qualifiers after Tanzania friendly cancellation
Morocco’s Under-23 international friendly against Tanzania, scheduled for Monday, 5 October, in Tangier has been cancelled because of internal reasons involving the visiting team.
The organising committee confirmed the cancellation in a statement, explaining that the decision was related to internal matters within the Tanzanian national team.
The match was due to take place at the Sports Village Stadium in Tangier as part of Morocco’s preparations for upcoming international assignments.
Morocco draw with Mali in preparation match
Morocco’s Under-23 side had played a 1-1 draw against Mali in their previous friendly last Thursday at Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
Amir Bouhamdi scored Morocco’s goal in the 35th minute as the young Atlas Lions continued their preparations under the national team’s technical staff.
The cancelled Tanzania fixture would have provided another opportunity for the squad to assess its progress ahead of more competitive tests.
Focus shifts to November AFCON qualifiers
Morocco’s Under-23 team are preparing for two matches against Ethiopia in November as part of the first round of qualifying for the Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations.
The cancellation means the team will have to adjust its preparation schedule, although no replacement fixture was announced in the statement.
The upcoming qualifiers remain a key objective for the young Atlas Lions as they seek to progress in the continental competition.
