Saudi Arabia reached the final of the Arabian Gulf Cup 27 after beating Qatar 3-2 on penalties following a goalless semi-final at Alinma Stadium in Jeddah on Saturday.
Neither side could find a breakthrough during 90 minutes or extra time, but Saudi Arabia dominated the match and created the clearer opportunities. Their pressure did not produce a goal, sending the contest into an additional 30 minutes.
The pattern remained largely unchanged in extra time, with Saudi Arabia continuing to attack. They appealed for two penalties, but the referee rejected both claims before the match ended without a goal.
Saudi Arabia held their nerve in the shootout to secure victory. Abdullah Al-Hamdan, Mohammed Kanno and Mukhtar Ali converted their penalties, while Hassan Tambakti and Firas Al-Buraikan missed.
For Qatar, Edmilson and Al-Jarahi scored from the spot. Almoez Ali, Jassem Gaber and Boualem Khoukhi were unable to convert their attempts.
Saudi Arabia will play the winners of Oman’s semi-final against the United Arab Emirates in Tuesday’s Gulf Cup 27 final, which will also be held at Alinma Stadium in Jeddah.
