Senegal to host 2026 Beach Soccer AFCON as five-time champions target sixth straight title
Senegal will host the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations from November 28 to December 6, with the dates officially confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The decision gives the reigning champions the opportunity to defend their continental crown on home sand as they prepare to welcome Africa’s leading beach soccer nations for the tournament.
Senegal have established themselves as the dominant force in African beach soccer, winning the last five editions of the Africa Cup of Nations. Their latest hosting assignment therefore carries added significance, with the home side aiming to extend an extraordinary run of continental success in front of their supporters.
As hosts, Senegal have secured automatic qualification for the eight-team competition and will not have to navigate the continental qualifying process.
The tournament will also have implications beyond the African title, with the competition doubling as the continent’s qualifying event for the 2027 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
CAF shifts tournament dates
CAF, working with the Senegalese Football Federation, moved the competition from its original November 7-15 window to November 28-December 6.
The adjustment was made because Senegal is also scheduled to host the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games from October 31 to November 13.
Holding two major international sporting events within the same period would have created significant demands on Senegal’s infrastructure and operational resources. The revised beach soccer schedule is intended to give the host country enough time to manage the requirements of both competitions.
The change should also ease pressure around stadium infrastructure, security operations and broadcasting arrangements, allowing Senegal to stage the Beach Soccer AFCON after the conclusion of the Youth Olympic Games.
With the new dates now confirmed, attention will turn to the qualifying race as the remaining nations battle for a place in the final tournament.
Africa’s World Cup places at stake
The 2026 Beach Soccer AFCON will offer more than continental silverware, with qualification for the 2027 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup providing another major incentive for the participating teams.
The two finalists will claim Africa’s two available places at the global tournament. Reaching the final will therefore guarantee a place on the world stage, making every knockout-round match potentially decisive.
Senegal’s position as hosts means they are already assured of a place in the group stage, while the remaining seven positions are being contested through qualifying matches across the continent.
Teams from different regions are currently involved in knockout qualifiers as they attempt to secure passage to Senegal and challenge the hosts’ dominance.
The qualifying campaign is expected to determine the seven nations that will join Senegal in the eight-team continental tournament.
Senegal face challenge to dynasty
For Senegal, the tournament presents another opportunity to reinforce their status as Africa’s leading beach soccer nation.
Five consecutive Africa Cup of Nations titles have established a remarkable level of dominance, but the pressure will increase with the team playing on home sand and carrying the expectations of the host nation.
The Senegalese side will be aiming to combine that home advantage with their recent continental pedigree to claim a sixth successive title.
However, the chasing pack will have a clear incentive to end Senegal’s reign, particularly with a place at the 2027 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup available to the two finalists.
With qualification still underway, the identity of Senegal’s seven challengers remains to be determined.
Once the field is complete, Africa’s best beach soccer teams will converge on Senegal from November 28 as the hosts begin their latest title defence and the continent’s World Cup race reaches its decisive stage.
