Namibia suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat by Russia in an international friendly at the Ekaterinburg Arena, with the Brave Warriors overwhelmed by their opponents’ attacking threat.
Collin Benjamin’s side had appeared capable of limiting the damage during a relatively even first half, going into the interval only one goal behind. Lechii Sadulaev gave Russia the lead, but Namibia remained within reach of a positive result.
That prospect disappeared after the break as Russia increased the pressure and Namibia’s defence struggled to cope with the intensity of the hosts’ attacks.
Ilya Prutsev doubled Russia’s advantage before Artyom Tyukavin added a third, leaving Namibia with no opportunity to respond. The defeat was particularly difficult for Peter Shalulile and his team-mates, who were unable to create a meaningful route back into the match.
Russia continued to dominate late on. Vladislav Glushenkov and Anton Petrov both scored from the penalty spot as the margin widened further.
The scoreline was completed in stoppage time when Namibia goalkeeper Kamaijanda Ndisiro put through his own net, bringing a difficult evening for the visitors to an emphatic conclusion.
The result highlights the tactical issues facing Benjamin and his coaching staff ahead of Namibia’s next competitive fixtures. Russia, meanwhile, take confidence from the performance before their meeting with another African side, Nigeria.
