Hassan Tambakti returns to boost Saudi Arabia ahead of Qatar semi-final

Saudi Arabia have received a major defensive boost before Saturday’s Gulf Cup 27 semi-final against Qatar, with Hassan Tambakti declared fit to play.

The Al Hilal defender took part in the Saudi national team’s full training session on Friday, confirming his readiness for the match at Alinma Stadium in Jeddah.

Tambakti missed Saudi Arabia’s 2-0 victory over Iraq on Tuesday, a result that came at the same venue in the final round of the group stage. His return provides an important option for the side as they prepare to face Qatar for a place in the final.

The experienced defender’s availability is particularly significant because Saudi Arabia have recently been affected by a number of injuries. Goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi, defender Hassan Kadesh, full-back Zakaria Al-Hawsawi and midfielder Alaa Al-Haji are among those who have been unavailable.

Saudi Arabia go into the semi-final having made a perfect start to their Gulf Cup 27 campaign. They won all three of their group matches against Kuwait, Oman and Iraq, and have yet to concede a goal in the tournament.

The team completed their preparations for the meeting with Qatar on Friday, with the Saudi Football Federation confirming that the squad had concluded its training programme ahead of the last-four tie.
