French courts dismiss Kylian Mbappe’s harassment case against Paris Saint-Germain

French courts have rejected Kylian Mbappe’s complaint against Paris Saint-Germain over alleged “moral harassment”, bringing an end to the legal disputes between the Real Madrid forward and his former club.

The case was dismissed because of insufficient evidence, according to French newspaper L’Equipe, which reported the decision on Friday.

Mbappe’s lawyers initially filed the complaint during a wider dispute over unpaid salaries and bonuses. Although the complaint was later withdrawn, prosecutors continued to investigate the allegations independently.

However, investigating judges decided in May that the case should not proceed. Their ruling said it was “impossible to continue proceedings, because the claimant himself does not support the case”.

The dispute dates back to the beginning of the 2022-2023 season, when Paris Saint-Germain excluded Mbappe from the first-team squad after he refused to activate an option to extend his contract.

At the time, Mbappe accused the club of trying to force him either to sign a new deal or leave for a substantial transfer fee. Paris Saint-Germain were concerned about losing him for nothing when his contract expired.

The forward spent several weeks training with players who had also been left out of the first team. He was later brought back into the senior group by manager Luis Enrique during his first season in charge, allowing him to complete the campaign.

Mbappe left Paris Saint-Germain at the end of that season and joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.

As the disagreement continued, Paris Saint-Germain withheld part of his salary and bonuses. The club argued that the decision formed part of a verbal agreement Mbappe had made with president Nasser Al-Khelaifi in return for being restored to the first-team squad.

That prompted Mbappe to launch a wider legal campaign in May 2025, which included the complaint alleging moral harassment.

He eventually withdrew that case after the employment tribunal ruled in his favour in the contractual dispute. Paris Saint-Germain were ordered to pay him 61m euros in unpaid sums.

The club did not appeal that ruling, meaning it became final. The dismissal of the harassment complaint now formally closes the remaining legal proceedings between the two sides.

Mbappe joined Paris Saint-Germain from Monaco in 2017 for 180m euros, at the time the second-most expensive transfer in football history. During his spell in Paris, he became the club’s all-time top scorer and won seven French league titles.

His departure to Real Madrid marked the beginning of a new chapter in his career, while the latest court decision brings to a close a dispute that began during the final years of his time at Paris Saint-Germain.
