Barcelona’s decision to consider Nicolo Tresoldi as a potential attacking option is looking increasingly justified, with the Germany Under-21 striker continuing to score regularly for Club Brugge.
The Catalan club began widening its search for a new centre-forward when the possibility of signing Julian Alvarez started to fade. With Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres set to leave, Barcelona needed to strengthen its attack and add further goals to the squad.
Gabriel Jesus eventually arrived at Barcelona as a genuine opportunity in the transfer market, but the Brazilian was not the only alternative examined by the club. According to Sport, Tresoldi was among the more unexpected names linked with Barcelona during the final weeks of the transfer window.
The striker had emerged as one of the most promising forwards in the Belgian league last season and finished as Club Brugge’s leading scorer. He recorded 23 goals and provided nine assists, establishing himself as one of the club’s most productive players.
His appeal, however, extends beyond those figures. Tresoldi has also impressed with his ability to combine with teammates, link play between the lines and contribute to the collective structure of the attack. Those qualities are considered compatible with Barcelona’s footballing philosophy and style.
Signing him would nevertheless have represented a significant risk. At that stage, Tresoldi still lacked experience at the highest level, making any move an investment in his potential rather than a guarantee of immediate success.
His development since then has continued at a rapid pace. The German forward has begun this season strongly, scoring five goals in nine appearances for Club Brugge. His form has also carried over to the international stage with Germany Under-21.
Tresoldi was called up to the Germany Under-21 squad during the current international break, and his performances are increasingly bringing him into consideration for upcoming matches involving the senior national team managed by Jurgen Klopp.
His current market value is €25m, according to Transfermarkt. That figure reflects the progress he has made and could rise further if he maintains the level he has shown so far.
Barcelona’s sporting department, led by Deco, appears once again to have identified a player with substantial potential. Tresoldi is continuing to advance steadily, and the signs suggest he could become an increasingly influential figure in European football.
Having already been linked with Barcelona, his current form means further interest from leading clubs across the continent would not be unexpected.
