Fabinho says Liverpool was the world’s best place to play football

Fabinho has revealed that he did not want to leave Liverpool when he moved to Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023.

The Brazilian midfielder, now with Turkish club Trabzonspor, said he had no desire to join another European side after an outstanding spell at Liverpool.

“I did not want to leave Liverpool and move to any other club in Europe,” Fabinho told reporters.

“I felt Liverpool was the best place in the world to play football and continue developing as a player. I wanted my career and legacy with the club to grow further, but my final season with the team was extremely difficult and exhausting.”

Fabinho won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Liverpool.

He joined Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023, bringing his spell at Liverpool to an end. After subsequently leaving the Saudi Arabian club, Fabinho moved to Trabzonspor on a free transfer.

Last season, he played 44 matches in all competitions, completing 3,906 minutes. He scored three goals and provided four assists.

Fabinho has since been reunited with Mohamed Salah, having previously played alongside the Egypt forward at Liverpool.
