Zambia claim first CAN 2027 qualifying win against Togo

Zambia secured their first victory in the CAN 2027 qualifiers with a controlled 2-0 win over Togo on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

The result came in the second round of Group I, with the Chipolopolo making the ideal start when Kangwanda opened the scoring in the second minute.

Togo were unable to find an equaliser before half-time, despite being forced to respond almost immediately after falling behind.

The Eperviers showed greater attacking intent after the interval and tried to restore parity, but Zambia’s defence remained organised and resilient. The score stayed unchanged for much of the second half, keeping the hosts within reach of their first points of the campaign.

Zambia eventually secured the result in the closing stages when Mandandji scored a second goal.

The 2-0 victory gives Zambia their first points in the CAN 2027 qualifying campaign, while Togo will look to respond in their next match.
