Gambia fight back from 2-0 down to stun Ghana in AFCON 2027 qualifier

Gambia produced a remarkable comeback to beat Ghana 4-2 in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, overturning a two-goal deficit after 33 minutes to claim all three points.

Ghana appeared to be in control when Ernest Nuamah converted a penalty in the 27th minute. Felix Afena-Gyan then doubled the hosts’ advantage six minutes later with a direct free-kick.

But Gambia responded before the interval. Mohamed Badamosi pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 37th minute, before Omar Colley levelled five minutes later with a right-footed finish. The teams went into half-time level at 2-2.

The momentum shifted decisively after the break as Gambia continued to apply pressure. Ebrima Colley completed the turnaround in the 68th minute, finding the net with another right-footed strike to put the Scorpions ahead.

Ghana pushed for an equaliser but could not convert its late attacking opportunities. Ebrima Colley then secured the victory in the first minute of added time, heading home on the counter-attack in the 90+1st minute.

The result completed a dramatic 4-2 victory for Gambia, who held on through the closing stages after recovering from two goals down.
